Final Project

Proposal for Final Project:

After looking at different examples and designs, i decided to slove the existing problem for Florist Shop logo which is lack effective to express their purpose and brand identity. After cosultation with Mr Vinod, he approve my idea and advice me to choose an exsting logo and work on that, also, for the typeface design, i need to design Capital letters for all the alphabets.

Design Progress:

After looking at differnt examples and typeface, i decided to use futrura std, a sans-serif typeface for my design since it will maintain the readability well after implemented the graphical elements in the typeface.

At first, i try different colour of texture and uses differnt colour of flower on the design but it was not consistent in terms on design. Hence, I started to look for better graphical elements that can be uses in the typeaface design which can also maintain the consistency of it.

After few attempts, i decided to use similar flower of graphical elements that having same colour scheme in my design. In order to fit the chracteristic of a florist, i choose wood texture with light colour for the background of typeface which matches well with the graphical elements.

After i done with my alphabets, i started to work on my logo design, which consider the placements of composition of the texts. Based on the feedback i get from Mr Vinod, he adviced me to change the placement of "since 2019" to below the words "Floral Boutique".

Conclusion (Purpose)

In conclusion, instead of using only picture and graphical elements, i wanted to  enhance the design by implement the characteristics of florist dentity into the typeface might be more effective to portrays their brand and purpose. Also create a logo that will be more visual appealing and suitable for florist branding.

Feedbacks

Online Feedback:
Can you simulate an actual signage. You are just showing the application of your logo as a signage. So just use any floral shop front you can find on the internet and put the the artwork on the signage. Digital enough.

Reflections

Experiences

Week 11

After done with my previous project blog, i proceed to develop ideas for my final project, by looking at the examples that have provided in the mib and also some examples that shown by Mr Vinod after the briefing.

Week 12

After i consulted with Mr Vinod about my proposal, he ask me to provide a relevant problem statement that relate to the idea beofore i start to work on it.

Week 13

After few attempts of applying different graphical elements on the alphabet, i decided to chooose a consistent colour and design for the floral elements. Morever, to fit the colour scheme for my grapical elements, i adjust and come out with different colour to test for the wood texture on my alphabets.

Observations

Week 11

Looking at differnt examples might be helpful in our cognitive process of developing idea, we must always look for inspiration which can provide us a guideline to produce an applicable design for our selected topic.

Week 12

Looking for suitable typeface that works well with my idea was not easy, since it is necessary  to maintain the balance for the mixture of the alphabet and graphic elements. Also, the texture of the alphabet do play an important role to determine the visual appearance of the designed typeface.

Week 13

Compare to the previous attempts, applying consistent graphical elements will maintain the consistency of the design for alphabets, a lighther colour of texture works better with the graphical elements.

Findings

Week 11

In order to have a suitable idea for my Final Project, i found out that research and exploraiton is an important step to be done before i can start to work on my proposal.

Week 12

In the process of choosing typeface, i fount out that a san serif typeface will work better for my design which able to maintain the readability of the alphabets. Besides, i choose to apply wood texture on the aplabets to fit the characteristics for florist branding.

Week 13

I found out that he placement and porpotion of the graphical elements need to be consider well which able to fit the alphabet  and maintain the balance and consistency of the design.

Title: The Typography Idea Book : Inspiration From 50 Masters

Fig 2.2 Book Cover

For our final project, we need to look for idea and inspiration that is relavant to either designing typeface or problem solving of typography. This book have given me a clearer picture of typeface design in various of creative way by providing works and examples from different intelligent designers. Morover, it is quite helpful in terms of evolve different typographic characters or styles, or perhaps even your specific design signature. What this book is not is a tutorial in typographic basics such as kerning, spacing, selecting, and so on. Besides, there are many excellent existing volumes that will give you that essential knowledge.

Chapter : Communicate Through Letters

Fig 2.2 Image As Letters
In this chapter, they provide differnet examples of letter design. They say that a picture is worth a thousand words, so, what if that picture is of a letter or word? Then it must be worth even more. What we call pictorial type may not be pure typography, but it can be effective design.  Besides, some alphabets designed for site-specific environments convey clear messages to passers-by, yet others are designed solely as environmental spectaculars, in which the ironic use of scale and surprising materials is the only rationale for the existence of the work.
